Server Hosting

CLA-OIT operates physical and virtual servers for research, instructional, and administrative needs including database, web, and terminal servers. System engineers provide support as well as patch and maintain the servers.

Eligibility

CLA faculty, staff, and graduate students

What We Do

  • Provide access to college-owned server space.
    • good fit for moderate workloads that do not require guaranteed levels of availability
    • secure hosting in University-approved datacenters with high availability features
  • Provide standard database, web, and file services on shared servers.
  • Support RedHat Enterprise Linux, Ubuntu Linux, Windows, and OSX Server.
  • Patch and maintain servers for security, operating systems, and applications.

What We Don't Do

  • Provide superuser access to servers.
  • Support applications with node-locked or user-locked licenses.
  • Support hosting of private data such as HIPAA, FERPA, and PCI.

What You Need to Do

  • Use VPN when off campus, for Windows servers.
  • Respect others when using server resources and limit usage to appropriate levels.

    • good fit for open-ended needs or clinical projects that need to handle private data
    • secure hosting in University-approved datacenters with high availability features
  • Support RedHat Enterprise Linux, Ubuntu Linux, Windows, and OSX Server.
  • Patch and maintain servers for security, operating systems, and applications.

What We Don't Do

  • Provide superuser access to servers.

What You Need to Do

  • Use VPN when off campus, for Windows servers.
  • Purchase standard hardware that satisfies University requirements for equipment to be hosted in datacenters.
  • Follow private data security procedures as required by your project.

  • Support RedHat Enterprise Linux, Ubuntu Linux, Windows, and OSX Server.
  • Patch and maintain servers for security, operating systems, and applications.

What We Don't Do

  • Provide superuser access to servers.
  • Support hosting of private data such as HIPAA, FERPA, and PCI.

What You Need to Do

  • Use VPN when off campus, for Windows servers.
